by Jane Volk-Brew
The Palo Alto High School Robotics Team, The Vikings, also known as “Team 8”, which had participated in three regionals during the February-March competition season (Portland, Silicon Valley, and Las Vegas) traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for the FIRST Robotics Challenge championship last weekend. 18 team members were able to go.
What now?
Should we go to Atlanta this year?
Las Vegas Sun: Teen masters gather for a robot rodeo
Hi, Robots: Everyone knows that robots are plotting behind our backs to overthrow humanity. For decades we’ve been warned, in comic books and anime and sci-fi books and movies.
As you read this, the teenage power-nerds of America are busily designing our future android overlords — and winning prizes and scholarships for it.

Portland, Day One
We arrived yesterday at the airport. Transportation was a breeze, and the hotel was very nice. (A sidenote, Lars and Jonna Rossen managed to beat us on the 700-mile journey -- driving.)
Today we got in at about 7:30 for uncrating. The robot's crate was damaged during shipping (Doug speculated that it might have been dropped off of a truck) but the robot was 100% working. We spend most of the morning installing our upgrade parts (new arms, mostly) and we are now tuning the code before we head out for our first practice match of the day.
